Dell unlikely to buy Internet provider

AUSTIN, Texas, July 16 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. is unlikely to buy an
existing Internet service provider, and instead may plow resources into building
its own Internet service, Dell vice chairman Kevin Rollins said on Friday.

He told Reuters the computer maker had studied the idea of buying an Internet
company because of Dell's plans to increase its Internet activities, but believes
the price would be unjustifiably high. "I believe they're pretty remote," Rollins
said of the chances Dell would make such a purchase. "We don't think we
need to. We believe we can partner with Internet companies or we can use our
own capabilities with our Dell.net effort."
