Re: Cisco/Realtec/NGDLC or DLC Plus

"DO you remember that in -was it 1998?- they wanted to get a NGDLC from RELTEC to integrate in their 6xxx series? What went wrong?"

elmatador,
Being a former shareholder of Fore Systems, I stumbled across this interesting fact about Realtec. I don't know if this explains it, but Realtec was folded into a company by the name of Marconi Communications. Marconi is a subsidiary of GEC, plc. As you may know GEC plc, just recently purchased Fore Systems:

All this buying/merging may have made it difficult for Cisco to get info on Realtec's NGDLC products for confidentiality reasons.

Now I didn't even realize that Cisco was trying to integrate a NGDLC from the former Realtec into Cisco products. That's pretty interesting in itself. Failing that, it appears CSCO purchased Fibex Systems for this purpose.

Now I wonder why Cisco didn't refer to their new DLC product as an NGDLC? Apparently they are going to call it a, "DLC Plus."

And, if you know, how does HDSL-2 deployments depend upon NGDLCs? I'm assumming it must be related by the statements made by ITC DeltaCom.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
