The most trouble free solution would be to get someone else to install the ethernet for you. Go ahead and buy a hub, and get a docking station for your laptop or a laptop with built in ethernet. It will cost a few hundred dollars more than some other solutions but it's more foolproof (coax can appear connected when it's not, and pcmcia adapters sometimes come out of the slot when you move the laptop a bit).
