Thanks, Curtis. I've come to learn that same thing from a very enlightening PM that I just received, as well.

If my sources are correct (and they have not been wrong yet in this area) it then appears that at the time of CSCO's initial plunge into the CM/CMTS DOCSIS standards areas, or thereabouts, they locked in a very good, shall we call it, if not a very well placed relationship, strategically, with the primary software and chip maker of that day, back in the mid-Nineties. This, allegedly, and in large measure, accounted for their preeminence, I've been told, and their being able to move out in front of the others who received their licensing later on from the same chip manufacturer. Timing. It's almost everything.

In any event, this whole issue of CSCO's long-standing involvement in this area was something that I didn't know before posting the question and getting it answered by multiple sources. And that's what it's primarily all about. Thanks again.
