I was talking to an engineer from the Long Island Rail Road a few weeks ago and asked him about NYRR. The response I got was one hundred percent anti NYRR because of their non union status. Can a non union RR become a big player in such a pro union region? On the other hand, I read in an editorial in Long Island Newsday from a NY State rep (Caesar Trunzo) about the importance of decreasing the trucks on LI's roads by increasing cargo on LIRR tracks. Spend a rush hour on the LI expressway, Southern / Northern Parkways, Montauk or Sunrise Hwys and you will probably get the same attitude.
