Lee, i do agree with you that the technical evidence is sending mixed signals, i.e. there can be arguments found for both bullish and bearish interpretations. viewed in isolation, the index charts certainly suggest higher prices.

another strong bullish signal was sent today by MSFT confirming the new highs. however, i continue to be worried by the evidence of complacency as well as the continued poor breadth of the market.

from a fundamental perspective, one has to be concerned about the market's valuation relative to the 'fair value' model. the gap yawns wider than ever. no material correction is likely to occur however, if there is no exogenous trigger.

the problem with said trigger is that it is hard to foresee; however, a complacent market at it's peak can easily fall prey to surprises. so while it may be too early to enter the bear camp, a correction may hit anytime.
