*cdma2000 in space [Globalstar]* I didn't get an answer to this question at the CDG Hoe-Down. Globalstar2 constellation will be fast, but nowhere near terrestrial. But the CDG presentation did have it on their services and data rate chart [tucked away in the bottom right corner].

ICO remains a competitive threat. It seems that should be dealt with by launching a 10,000km high, orthogonal at 45deg incline, 2 x 4 satellite constellation with dirty great huge antennae so that handset devices can be small.

That constellation would give total global coverage, avoid the need for Globalstar gateways on Pitcairn, Falklands/Malvinas, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti, Honolulu, etc etc adding up to a LOT of money saved and vastly improved coverage. It could be done quickly. Especially if the ICO satellites can be converted, which would rescue existing shareholders from the rapacious strategic partners who will only fund the shortfall if they get a cheap constellation to complete. Globalstar could well be the high bidder for the remnants of ICO - maybe higher than the parties who might or might not fund the remaining money needed to build and launch it.

The spectrum is allocated to Globalstar already. The CDMA would just slot into place, backward compatible with the old constellation.

Let's see if that comes up as a solution to the ICO competitive threat. It is a bit like Microsoft/Rockefeller type seriously competitive marketing strategy, but we are here to provide a competitive, low cost service with high performance and make the most money, so bad luck for Iridium and ICO if they can't compete.
