welcome visiondf! Looks like we might be about to go places. Barron's top(# 1) ranked fund manager has GMST as his holding, and seems to be reccomending it(in 7/19/99's barrons cover story). I been holding gmst since split adjusted 8/share, but I been buying along the way... some nicer excerpts from barrons: Risk is in again. That's the theme of this year's fourth annual ranking by Barron's and Value Line, aimed at determining the 100 top mutual-fund managers. Sure, you'll find that many of the big-cap portfolio chiefs who have dominated the rankings in the past are still on our list. But, this year, the rankings are topped by managers who eschewed the familiar giants in favor of smaller, relatively no-name outfits like Gemstar International and Siebel Systems with torrid growth rates. and Callinan's finding bargains now in information technology services, an area "everybody hates" and where stocks are selling at 10 times his forecasts. Recently, the fund's largest positions included Power Integrations, which makes power conversion circuits, customer management software vendor Siebel Systems, satellite broadcaster Echostar Communications and Gemstar International, which makes video recording systems. Gemstar International, which at a recent price of 75 was up an amazing 163% this year, has a market cap of $7.5 billion. The company makes software for interactive TV, and its technology is used in built in TVs, VCRs and remote controls, among other products. One of its products allows TV viewers to gain access to program guides via a remote. Some Wall Streeters believe that the company, which is trading at about 90 times estimated EPS for its fiscal year ending next March, could see profits rise, on average, by 40% annually over the next five years. There's also another element in the Gemstar story; the company has been the subject of takeover rumors. ----------- i do appreciate the extra exposure!!!
