No one should have booted Unclewest from the Yahoo thread, or from any thread. He's a valuable source of information, perspective and opinion - IMHO. Did he curse? (no big deal on the yahoo thread, apparently) Did he personally attack another poster? (no big deal on the yahoo thread, apparently)..

As for your question about the First Amendment: I'll offer my off-the-cuff legal analysis (yes, I'm a lawyer, but not a first amendment lawyer, so don't take this as gospel): The protections of (mostly) free speech, religion, press, assembly (and petitioning the government for redress) under the First Amendment only apply as to state actors (e.g., the government, public institutions), not to private companies like Yahoo.

Private companies don't have to worry about censorship in the same way as the government. And read Yahoo's Terms of Use. They probably allow the company to cut people off for whatever reason.
