The good thing about a place like Fidelity is that you can get an educated person on the phone to explain all this to you.

It's really funny that you mentioned that. When I called Ameritrade to ask about their policy regarding speculating in options in retirement accounts, I was told on the phone that they don't allow it. When I informed him that their web site shows mt retirement accounts show at least some sort of options speculating, he asked a manager. When he came back, he explained that, indeed, they do allow covered calls, explaining it in a context making it immediately apparent that he had no idea what a covered call is. :)
