I like the layout and location of the house, it's not perfect, but it's good enough. Chris is in a funk, but there's nothing new there, he wanted a smaller, cheaper house. There was one house that he wanted to buy, that was about 2200 sq. ft., no garage, with a little under a quarter acre lot, a newish furnace, water heater and air conditioner compresser, for $240K. It had carpet in most of the rooms, or linoleum, and wallpaper that would have had to have been stripped, and every room would have had to have been painted to suit me, but other than that it was fine. One fireplace.

The one we seem to be buying is 2700 sq. ft., 2-car garage, half acre lot, hardwood in every room in perfect condition, two fireplaces, perfect paint job, new refrigerator and stove, new air conditioner compressor, but the furnace is original to the house, and it needs a fence, for $300K.

To me, the extra room and extra yard is worth a lot, and not having to refinish the floors or paint is awfully nice. It has a nice real slate landing in the foyer, and a brand new deck, too.

Well, if the guy doesn't finish the work on time, we could walk, so I will wait and we'll decide then. I think he's going to do his darndest to finish the work on time, in which case, we have to comply with the contract. We won't know if there's even a choice until later next week.
