Children are exposed to Shakespeare in school, however, X. It is that early exposure that I am arguing ruins it for some of them. I had to read and analyze several plays by ninth grade, which I found tedious and joyless.

I am not arguing that he is not a good writer--he is, or was, actually. I just think there is too much emphasis on his works. I remember that a couple of years ago a college somewhere decided that a course on Shakespeare was no longer mandatory for English majors, and there was a major outcry.

Then there is the interesting debate about whether Shakespeare really was himself, at all.
