This is what I believe was happening:
the news of Fidelity cutting its holding on AOL causes the selling last week, hence the AOL specialist has inventory in his account, if he tries to rally this week ahead of the earning, he is trying to sell down his inventory, if he does not have inventory, he does not have the incentive to move it higher, hence if he rallies in the next 3 days, then there is a chance the stock will fall back after earning release ...
If he continue to hold down the price, what he is trying to do is accumulate more shares, and the only way he can profit is to use earnings as an alibi to pop it up on Thursday ...

I intend to buy calls on Wednesday before the close if the stock declines next week ...
