Are you expecting a major Y2K related sell-off ?

Yes - I've talked to many, many people who are going to move all of their 401k money out of stocks in December, and then buy back in January once they see the world didn't fall apart. I think this will be a national trend.

I plan to be buying their shares all during the last week of November through the third week of December (if sellof starts before then I'll start earlier), then plan to sell back to them as they (or their Mutual Fund companies) buy back into the market.

So to summarize, I think the selling pressure of fund withdrawls or transfers out of stocks will drive prices down prior to year end, and I think the buying pressure of funds getting back in will lift the market in the beginning of the year. This buying period will probably take longer, simply because not everyone will be in as much of a rush to get in as they were to get out.

In my opinion the market will go up great guns for the first few months of 2000 and then reality will set in. It's 2000. The world didn't end. Now what? I'm thinking that may signal a fairly long term top, but now I'm getting ahead of myself.

Anyway, I'm loading up on cash in anticipation of a once in a lifetime opportunity. Could be right, could be wrong. That's what makes this game fun.
