Sorry about that John. I evidently hit the wrong button on this infernal machine and thought I had corrected it but, evidently did not. I will try to reconstruct.

While Joe Sr. was ambassador to England during prohibition, he received word that FDR would repeal the act when he was elected president, so he dealt for and received the franchise for all the Scotch whiskey that would be sold in the U.S. when it became legal. He then hired Elliot Roosevelt as his prime salesman to secure contracts for distribution of the liquor when it became legal. Evidently, Elliot was quite successful and booked a lot of business. Then when FDR was elected, Joe told Elliot that it would not look good for the son of the president to have earned money from the sale of booze, and refused to pay him a dime in commissions. That's the kinda guy Joe was. TD
