I'd have thought you'd rather have learned how to handle a frigid woman while chasing her stern.;^)

Lace-drawers writers for me, thank you. I have learned more about handling life's inevitable setbacks with maturity, and dignity, from Austen and James, than anyone else I can think of, as well as how to admit that one has been a fool, how to be polite when others are fools, how to behave with character when one is envious or jealous, and how to spot a cad. Austen and James write novels of manners, and I admit to being a parvenu, always the chief customers of such works.

I think one owes one's own civilization a try of everything that has lasted.
