Cypress says increased bookings presage strong finish to year

Electronic Buyers' News

SAN JOSE --Cypress Semiconductor Corp. said today that second-quarter revenue grew more than 21%, and that its large number of bookings indicate the company will perform even better in the second half of this year.

Cypress said revenue during the three-month period ended July 4 rose to $161.5 million from $133.4 million in the second quarter of 1998.

The company also reported booked orders worth $204.5 million during the quarter, enough to offset some expected weakness in the summer period. Cypress said it has continued to ramp up production at its Minnesota and Texas fabs to meet demand, which is expected to be strong in the last three months of this year.

"It appears that we will continue to grow revenue for the rest of 1999," said T.J. Rodgers, Cypress' CEO. "Our customers are beginning to book the traditionally strong fourth quarter earlier than in recent years, giving us more time to react to their demand."
