Scrumpy- that prediction comes from the Gartner Group's Status graph, extrapolated, not from me.

Your statements are correct. However, the entire chain of any/all products of the thousands used in every case must be taken into account and the many layers that comprise EVERY SINGLE ONEe, such as raw materials, refining, financing, distribution, transport, telecom, electricity, parts availability, international division of labor,
scheduling, inventorying/JIT, water, food, contracting, on-time,delivery, railroads and airlines, the list is absolutely unlimited-

physical construction is only the FINAL link (besides the least fun one- end user payments/financing!).

The Seattle Mariners will be the last major league baseball team to have a new stadium for a long, long time. And, they will not be hitting as many home runs in that new park! Griffey is ready to leave.
But, this time next year he may be relegated to playing only on sandlot diamonds!

new housing starts may be down scrumpy in the part of the usa which has dead of winter paralysis that seems to concern you. however, not all of the usa is above the 45th parallel which runs through southern oregon all the way to new york state, let alone north of the 49th parallel, separating the usa from canada. besides, just because it is cold, or there is a little snow or ice on the ground OUTSIDE doesn't halt construction. at least not from my 50 years of observation in this industry.

care to rethink your objection to rarebird's posted points?

My understanding is that building and contracting nears a low during the winter months, though you seem to be on the front lines with this one.

It depends Scrumpy. Depends on the climate you're building in.

But normally even cold regions spend quite a bit of time getting building projects framed and walled so that interior work can be done during the winter months. At least that how many projects my father and I worked went in Sun Valley, ID.
