Mr. Mark - you're analogy is exactly right, but in terms of "new" software, we have to remember that most of this is an art form, not a science, and when you call someone's art ugly it only reinforces their belief in it's intrinsic value.

I won't be wasting a lot of time trying the beta site any more. I found SI long ago and finally decided to subscribe for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the idea that I could pay for something useful that wasn't constantly dunning me with advertisements and links to offers I couldn't refuse. The Datek thing was apparently their way of market-testing our willingness to pay for being advertised at. Not enough people packed up and went away, so now we get the "new" "improved" (read: just-like-every-other-web-site) drivel and someone's idea of a "better" idea.

I know others have left just because of the Datek banner - and if they do go ahead with the new site, I won't renew my subscription.

Mr. K.

The "new" site is not appealing to me either aesthetically or for its functionality. I don't want to be cynical, but, it appears that the motivation for "beta" and beyond is to introduce a fertile ground for commercial presentations (advertisements).

They don't have to abandon the new site. They can keep both and we can use either the new site or the old site.

I will use the old (classic) site .
