My recollection paints a similar but somewhat different picture. Weren't there two RBOCs involved (PACBell and NYNEX/BEL - or was that prior to the merger of BEL's two constituents?), who decided to part ways in their joint venture? One theory was that when they decided to do so (split up) they used the unfeasibility of CAI's technology as the reason. It's more complicated than that, of course, but the net effect was devastating to the wireless co as I recall. If there is someone with better recall out there, please fill in the blanks...
