Scared but hopefull, I think you are wrong about Whitney and also about the Savage4. That 125 Mhz seems low to me,but then again I am not in the graphics business. Right now Whitney might be ok,but it is not expandable or replaceable. What Whitney can do now,is all that is will do for quite some time. With 3D rendering and virtual modeling I think it is a goner in 6-12 months. There will be many versions of NVidia,ATI,and 3 DFX chips by then, all with higher potential than what INTC is doing. I think I will replace my graphics boards many times in the next few years, much like I replaced my modems the last few years.
On price/sales,that is the best indicator of price to me. I have used that as a guideline for 3 decades buying stocks. I look for p/sales under 1, good management(DIMD has terrible),and an economic reason to turn around.
DIMD's value is in brand name, and in areas other than multimedia. High end specialized graphics, home networking(especially G-Lite with NT),and portable audio are some of their key areas. The key to success is branding products,DIMD has good name recognition. Integrating the two companies is a big task, and turning the profit margins is also. But a good management team surely can turn around this company. In the tech arena book value and earnings come and go,they are not stable, they are in a constant state of flux. Revenues on the other hand are stable, and the best indicator of future potential. Would you want to own an Internet company with little or no revenues,a p/sales in the thousands and no barrier to entry?
SIII is gonna turn around, how far I am not sure. Is it a core holding of mine? No,but I got a small stake in DIMD,and am going to hold to see what happens.
My core holdings are all turn arounds in technology, from SEAC,to HLIT(biggest holding),to CAMP. This game is the easiest to play, the doubters will always fuel the rise in the stocks. Once they no longer doubt and believe I am gone.
Hiram

<<No doubt Potashner is a good salesman, but he also sold the majority of his holdings at a ridiculously low price between 8-8.5.>>

This is a blatant lie - Potashner sold a very tiny percentage of his holdings!!! Someone posted that he did this to fund a friend's business venture. Check with S3 investor relations for the true story.
