If I had "shorting" permission on my account and chose to sell 100K shares of MTSN at mkt on open, I would not be breaking any law. ... unless my jurisdiction has laws against stupidity.

If someone chooses to create a buying opportunity for others, this is a free country.

Given that MTSN closed 1/2 point higher than it opened, my guess is the short seller got burned. Rather than MTSN holders panicking, he found some strong hands snapping up the unexpected bargain, and the short seller got burned.

It's a free and open market. If you see a buying opportunity, take full advantage of it. IMO, it's just that simple.
