Y2K may hit Medical bills, records - as if med billing wasn't bad enough...

WASHINGTON - Patients may want to take some simple precautions to
protect themselves from billing and recordkeeping problems caused by the
Year 2000 computer bug, with a government report questioning the
preparedness of doctors and hospitals. Failures in health care providers'
billing systems have been discovered in Y2K testing conducted by
Medicare, according to a report from the General Accounting Office, an
investigative arm of Congress. Dr. Richard Corlin, a speaker of the
American Medical Association's house of delegates, suggests that patients
ask their doctor or pharmacy about Y2K preparations, get prescriptions
refilled in December and call to confirm appointments scheduled after Jan.
