I believe there may be a science behind it and dismissing it offhand could be a great error. There are still many things we do not know about the physical universe, or how it may interact with other universe/dimensions (for which there exist mathematical evidence).

As the scientists of the time laughed at the idea of "rocks falling from the sky" (meteors), so too do most of the scientists of today dismiss phenomena that do not fit neatly into their pet hypotheses.

I say, explore them fully and we may expand scientific knowledge and perhaps have a "new", better physics as well.
