I am sure that almost everyone would agree with you that Finnegan's Wake is difficult to read. Have you ever seen Anthony Burgess' guide to it? Using it, I was able to read the first two chapters, and found it to be quite exciting, but it was an awful lot of work, and I gave it up. Ulysses is much easier, IMHO, but still difficult, and the rest of Joyce is quite a pleasure. Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Dubliners are masterpieces.
