Hi Claude,

IPO stands for "Initial Public Offering".

It is best defined as "that time when the insiders of either
a (1) successful company, or (2) an internet company, get filthy
stinking rich." A little bit of a tongue-in-cheek response, but
fairly accurate.

It is when a company begins trading publicly on an exchange. This
is generally when individual investors can first buy stock in that
company.

Hope this helps,
Rob
