Interesting question. I guess it would be a "neo- film noir"....

> What category would "Usual Suspects" fall under?

One of my all time favorite movies, with emphasis on my<g>

Some others:
Apocalypse Now
all Pink Panther movies
The Unbearable Lightness of being
The Shining
Wings of Desire
Diva
Brazil
and a flick from Yugoslavia I had the fortune to watch in a great small outdoor theater in Santorini, Greece. The film was about that country's history and civil war madness...Anyone can help me with the title?

and many many others...

For scariest, other than the Shining, my favorite one is the Dutch original "The Vanishing"...The final scene as the lighter slowly dies...and you start walking out of the theater and it hits you....oh !@#& this must be the worst way to die!

I guarantee that "Buena Vista Social Club" from Wenders will be one of my all time favorites too. The CD (with Cuban legends jamming with Ry Cooder in Havana) has been played repeatedly since I bought it a few weeks ago. For fans of authentic music from that part of the world this CD will just blow you away!

The movie opens next week here, can't wait.

I saw Run Lola Run yesterday, I enjoyed it...needless to say I felt out of breath at the end<g>

There are, by the way, a number of under- rated films: The Hudsucker Proxy, Mistress, The Double Life of Veronique, The Lover, and Best Intentions come readily to mind: the general critical reaction was too tepid, or even somewhat negative, and/or they were too quickly "passed by".
