I have ADSL which cost me 400$ a year - and I also have @home wich is 40$ a month. I figure that having 2 fast ISP's are always a good Idea. there is no reason to chinz on your ISP - get the best. From what I hear I have very cheap rates for my ISP's. I live in Calgary Canada for those who want to know..

You make a good point about the importance of the isp. I was able to unbundle my ADSL from the telco (GTE) and go with a local provider that offers "boutique," as you call it, service. The results have been amazing. My isp does automatic load balancing on three backbones and it has been wonderful.
