Java is almost certain to penetrate the embedded systems world for a number of reasons: o It's portable (you can really reuse stuff) o It's productive (you can write less code and get more done) o It leads to solid applications (they just don't crash, even during development, and you can upgrade them on the fly during debugging) o It means you don't have to constantly retrain for each new target (abstraction of the platform). But most compelling is: o It makes programming fun again (and this matters to Engineers) The current technical challenges to applying it will be overcome. P.
