TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - Share prices closed higher after the government's
market stablisation measures and bargain hunting reversed the fall in early
trade, dealers said.
The weighted index closed up 20.66 points or 0.30 pct at 7,386.89, off a
high of 7,455.01 and a low of 7,192.99.
Volume was 2.19 bln shares worth 112.85 bln twd.
Decliners outnumbered advancers 289 to 172, with 48 stocks unchanged.
A total of 17 stocks closed limit-up and 36 limit-down.
The electronics sector added 0.25 pct.
The cement, financial, plastics/petrochemical, and food sectors were up 0.
84, 0.51, 0.39, and 0.25 pct.
The paper, textile, and construction sectors were down 1.59, 1.55, and 1. 26
pct. The Taiwan dollar closed the morning at 32.336 against the U.S. dollar,
after trading within 32.375-32.331 and compared with the previous close of 32.
