Still, I've always suspected that only a small fraction of those who cite The Wealth of
Nations have actually read it. The same can be said of many other writings on the same
subject.

The same can be said of many other writings on MANY other subjects! I get so frustrated hearing people discuss books that I can tell they have "read" only in reviews, summaries in survey courses, Cliff notes, or sometimes even Classic Comics.

Steven, maybe a few dozen is high since most I considered Economic books were actually books written about the stock market, with some emphasis on economic models and the movement of money. I would say the Road to Serfdom and Capitalism and Freedom were much easier to understand and digest than the Wealth of Nations. I also believe Economics Explained and 21st century capitalism were too.

I'm curious, both you and Christopher seem to have absorbed that paragraph with relative ease. Why don't you both PM me and explain what that paragraph means to you. That was just one paragraph I flipped to as I opened the book. Let's see how closely you both line up. This could demonstrate how easily that paragraph could be simplified for understanding and show what you both focused on with regard to the important theme of the paragraph. Could be an interesting DOE. :-)
