i believe you are mistaken about the us $50 gold coin being legal tender in this nation. it seems we have a special category for money that isn't money down here, and all the bullion gold and silver coins, including the pure silver 1 dollar eagle is in that special category as well. maybe someone who collects coins can give us that special category name. i've only heard it one time, but that is how it was explained to me by the bank one time when i went to talk to them about it. is your canadian gold maple leaf a legal tender coin in canada?

No The border is a rather long way from Colorado, I can't find a way to make it pay off to drive up for gas. There are some stores that knowingly take $C for goods & services here none at par, more yet that take C coin unknowingly then, I'm afraid often at par.
