I don't think Craig McCaw wants to sell Nextlink.

He has acquired and built quite an impressive array of assets, which could be arranged into a very formidable full service end to end telco.

Combined with Nextel, McCaws other controlling public venture, an attractive package of communication services could be offered to businesses. Nextel already has a nationwide sales network calling on fortune 500 companies and small business. By marketing under the Nextel name they could benefit from Nextel's increasing brand awareness and national advertising campaign. Other synergies exist as well.

It's also interesting that Dan Ackerson, Nextel's CEO recently stepped down to work with Craig McCaw and the Eagle River group, while McCaw becomes Nextel's chairman in January '00.

Nextlink has alot of options, including selling, but IMHO some sort of alliance with Nextel makes sense.

Of course JMHO, FWIW
