Go back over the articles which broke the story. That was the number floated. I don't know all the ins and outs. But I'd find it rather surprising, if the idea was 1 c., and the reality 6 c.

Ed, it was Mr. Maffei (CFO of Microsoft) who gave the 1 cent addition to earnings number due to Microsoft's voluntary adjustement on deferred revenue account.

That's what I remember. Personally, I could care less. Just the fact that there is a cookie jar with money in it makes MSFT stand taller than the majority of techs out there. Most tech cos are trying to squeeze that last cent of earnings into the current quarter, while MSFT finds a good reason (free upgrades/software drivers, tech support) to say that penny should go in a future quarter.
