Jane Austen on the Internet. What a curious idea. I believe that if Jane were around today, she'd be happier. And Emily Dickinson, and Virginia Woolf. Jane would be a feminist, a tenured professor at a university. Emily would be published everywhere, and very much sought-after for readings. And Virginia would be on prozac, and living openly with another woman. She'd probably still write novels, but maybe some screenplays, too. And they'd probably be far too good for the likes of us, but I wish them well.
