Disk drive manufacturers should promote usage of disk drive space in the same vein as the California strawberry association. Perhaps with free downloads of interesting multi-media or really bloated but fun apps. Seems like marketing 101 to increase demand to meet excess capacity.

When I added a second drive sometime back and had a lot of unused space I discovered I could store things like MS Bookshelf (600MB) on the hard drive instead of reaching for a CD whenever I needed it. I now save web pages, photos and such which I never would have considered before. As bandwidth increases, I could find myself running out of space soon.

BTW, *Off Topic* This photo and caption describing "The Great Nebula in Carina" seems analogous to the disk drive sector. antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov
I would save it to disk, but NASA seems to make these photos available in perpetuity. The Disk Drive Manufacturers could get around this by making downloads available for limited periods of time on a rotating basis. Thus, anything you wanted on a regular basis would have to be saved to your personal space.
