OpenTV Opens Office in South Korea, Extending Global Reach in the Interactive Television Market MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1999--OpenTV, Inc., a worldwide leader in interactive television software for the digital receiver, today announced that it has opened an office in Seoul, South Korea, which will enable OpenTV(R) to provide OpenTV interactive television software solutions to the growing Korean television market. The Korean operation will be responsible for managing and coordinating marketing and sales activities in Korea, including establishing agreements with digital receiver (set-top box) manufacturers and television network operators. Additionally, OpenTV's Korean office will offer technical support for the region's application developers using OpenTV's operating system. OpenTV will also develop applications for interactive television which are tailored specifically for individual Korean markets. OpenTV plans to leverage its relationships with Korean manufacturers of digital receivers and strong ties with network operators to promote interactive television services in the region. The success and high standards of Korean digital receiver manufacturers, who are already working with OpenTV's technology, make Korea a prime market for OpenTV's software solutions. Most recently Ko held the position of International Sales Manager at Samsung, where he was responsible for the development and worldwide sales of SmartStudio products, Samsung's set of multimedia authoring tools. "We are very excited to be establishing roots in Korea and to be solidifying our position in yet another strategic global market," said Jan Steenkamp, CEO of OpenTV.
