Ford Select Network Appliance NetCache Solution for Global, Enterprise Web Infrastructure
Business Wire
July 19, 1999, 6:18 a.m. PT

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1999--Network
Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of dedicated cache
appliances, today announced that Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) has
chosen the Network Appliance(TM) NetCache(TM) system as its enterprise
caching solution for over 70,000 Internet users in its worldwide
organization. NetCache appliances are the industry's leading Web
caching solution and are deployed internationally in both corporate
and ISP network infrastructures.

After performing an extensive evaluation of Web proxy and cache
vendors, the NetCache system was selected by Ford for its strong
enterprise features. The NetCache appliance will enable corporations
like Ford to grow their networks as new Internet technologies emerge,
while ensuring optimum performance for end users.

According to Peter Christy, Principal at Collaborative Research
(Los Altos, Calif.), "As Web technology is increasingly used to
implement business systems, the caching industry is experiencing
growing interest from enterprise customers who want to accelerate both
Internet content and corporate intranet data to increase employee
productivity. The NetCache solution is especially attractive to
corporate customers because in addition to high performance, fast
access to Internet information, the integrated features such as
content filtering and user group access controls provides benefits
that will help enterprises provide a business-appropriate work
environment." Collaborative Research estimates that the caching
industry will grow from $90 million in 1998 to about $500 million by
the year 2000.

"Ford's decision to standardize on NetCache appliances is
demonstrative of what we're seeing across the enterprise industry,"
said Larry Kubo, vice-president of marketing for Network Appliance.
"Fast, reliable access to information from any office or location
around the world is mission-critical to businesses. By using NetCache
appliances to put that Internet and intranet information closer to
employees, enterprise corporations are increasing the performance of
their network infrastructure, which will ultimately result in a more
secure, productive work environment."
