With Internet news abounding this morning, many of the sector's stocks enjoyed a run up.

Shares of America Online (NYSE:AOL - news) rose $2.03 to $122 after announcing that AOL UK, America Online's British subsidiary, will offer a free ISP service to compete with rival FreeServe, which crushed AOL UK subscription growth last fall by waiving subscriber fees. Since then investors and analysts have been keeping close tabs on AOL's response to the threat of free ISPs, which many have feared could further manifest themselves to AOL's disadvantage. In other AOL-related news, USA Today reported that the FCC will announce anti-open access regulation later today. AOL has been trying to pry open the doors of cable access, but has faced stiff resistance from major carriers and competitors, such as AT&T (NYSE:T - news) and Excite@Home (NASDAQ:ATHM - news) . In any case, today BancBoston Robertson Stephens analyst Keith Benjamin upped his rating on AOL to 'strong buy.'
