I like Tolstoy's short stories. "God Sees the Truth But Waits." And Anna Karenina. But not nearly so much as Dostoyevsky, and no-one ever asked me to choose.

Faulkner is not so bad once you get into the rhythm, but Hemingway's novels always struck me as adolescent musings dressed up in adult clothing.
