ASIC architecture

Aside from Q!'s lead-time on CDMA ASIC design, are there other aspects of the
system-on-a-chip design, in which additional circuitry/interface with the software
with the different functionality, would confer on Qualcomm a built-in advantage? I
suppose that the answer to that is no.

I would agree with your supposition. I don't think QCOM is any further ahead (or behind) DSP, LSI et al with respect to 'system on a chip'
architecture.

An interesting area is the selection of OS to support a PDA GUI.
QCOM appears to be leaning towards PalmOS.
Most of the other wireless players are in the EPOC camp. CE is dead in it's current form, but one can never discount MSFT.

Did anyone follow up on speculation that QCOM is eying COMS?
If they are, I suspect they may actually be looking at the Palm division.
