I have recently been looking into gold funds such as the Franklin Gold Fund and the Oppenheimer precious metals funds. I am hoping these my be some type of a hedge should the DOW be corrected. I noticed that for both of these funds (FKRCX and OPGSX) there was a significant plunge in NAV during August 1998. If I recall correctly at this time the DOW had experienced a temporary adjustment. I would has thought that the funds would have gone up. Does anyone have any insight to this occurence? Was gold going down at this time?

Thanks

KG
