That is a fairly quick descent rate. While it's certainly within the capabilities of the aircraft, It's not a normal operation. Most pilots target 500-1000' per minute descents in light aircraft. The radar data would indicate more like 1400.

In short, it seems to me that he was in an unusual mode of flight.
