I agree 100% with removal of the "GO/SI Navigation" components in the header.

At first I worried about the design inconsistency that would be introduced by dropping that box, but after using it for a day, that no longer bothers me. In fact, getting rid of it on many pages would probably decrease confusion.

I am now fully in favor of dropping it on message pages and most other places.

Getting rid of it on message pages would also drop one of the two image elements to speed up rendering.

The Go box works very well on a few pages (listed below). It's intuitive and logical on those pages. It is, however, neither intuitive nor logical on the discussion page and on pages other than those mentioned below.

Here's where it should be retained:
Quote | Charts | News | Financials EPS Est. | Profile | SEC | Hist. Prices | Industry Grp.

On those pages, the Go box works to select information of the same kind for the selected stock. For instance, while looking at "SEC" for MSFT, one can enter "GNET" in the Go box to see SEC filings for that symbol. The same thing works for all the other items above. This widget provides the most logical way to move around those pages and most folks looking at them would understand that quickly.

Having it appear only on those pages makes it obvious that it serves a special purpose on those pages alone.

It's especially important for the SEC info section since it's the only part of the page supplied by SI. It floats in a frame above the foreign info. [On another subject: It might be worthwhile making that frame resizable, however, since folks on a small monitor would then have a way to move it out of the way.]

On pages other than those mentioned above, the action of the Go button isn't intuitive. It takes one to a quote page. While it's easy to figure out that entering a symbol on the news page will take one to news about that symbol, it's not intuitive that entering a symbol there while on a message page will take one to a quote for the symbol.
