IBM second quarter profit beats analysts' targets

ARMONK, N.Y., July 19 (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) on Monday reported second quarter net income of $2.4 billion, including a tax benefit of about $700 million, on a 16 percent increase in revenue to $21.9 billion.

Beating Wall Street estimates by three cents per share, the world's largest computer maker said its profit after the one-time gain amounted to 91 cents per share.

Sig, IMO they haven't set the hurdle rate HIGH enough for Mr. Softie....MSFT is a MASTER at managing expectations....the analysts should KNOW that by now ....It may be time to give MSFT some REAL stretch targets <G> -- shouldn't they have to work to hit those numbers every now and then..?? Actually I'm glad they came in right on target since my relatives still own a lot of MSFT stock -- it continues to amaze me (even with its market cap of $1/2 trillion)..!!
