Jesse Ventura for Pres....<< Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura refused to sign a proclamation proclaiming the first Thursday in May to be a day of prayer, typically issued in conjunction with Congress' National Day of Prayer.

"I believe in the separation of church and state. We all have our own religious beliefs. There are people out there who are Atheists, who don't believe at all. ...They are all citizens of Minnesota, and I have to respect that," he said.

Ventura can be reached at Office of the Governor, 130 State Capital, St. Paul Mn 55155, fax (651-296-2089), governor@state.mn.us >>

What a breath of fresh air compared to the typical demagoguery shown by most politicians. I propose that Jesse runs for president, and that the rules be changed so that the presidency goes to whoever wins 2 out of three falls.

Oh, Blue, boo hoo, all I get when I click on the "Ulysses" audio files is "File Not Found"! I did find one clip of Joyce himself, reading from Finnegan's Wake. What a brogue!

Taking another look at Ulysses now, it looks so much less difficult than when I first opened it many years ago. I think it is not just because I have become more familiar with the text, but also because other writers have appropriated so many Joycean techniques that his approach no longer seems that "strange."

As for the title of "Crone," I must decline, not because there is anything inappropriate in the title itself, but because one must be "appointed" to it. I have already found my place among the footloose, free-spirited, feckless, and fearless Goliards. No catering to the Powers That Be for me! :-)
