Ed,

A caller on CNBC just asked about ATHM......
the "analyst" loved the sector, but said that ATHM was depending on it's existing relationships until legislation. He said he would be cautious (paraphrasing)until this issue is cleared up.....but was very comfortable with it long term.

Hope ATHM gets the problems sorted out. No way its that you have "only" 32Meg of Ram. I wish they wouldnt come up with these lame excuses.

Sorry to hear that, Ed.

Keep us posted as to if/when they solve the speed issue. Could be a number of reasons, I guess (probably less to do with your computer, IMO...)

I just got off the phone with an @Home Rep. I was told the reason nobody has called me back with an installation date since my initial discussion with them last week, is because the demand is too great in my area (Silicon Valley area). He said that the "backbone" could not handle the demand for new subscribers, so they are in the midst updating it (new subscribers were experiencing difficulties) . He went on to say that they expect to be up and running in my neck of the woods by Sept. 30th, 1999.

The rep. was very courteous and friendly. He said that although the @Home offer for AOL customers ends Aug. 30th, 1999, the company would honor the offer for me when service becomes available (said he'd "make a note in the database" under my personal info...). The rep said that they are gaining many new subscribers from AOL since the special offer recently.

I'll keep you posted if/when service becomes available in my area.

Let's see what subscriber count looks like tomorrow after the bell. I'll be expecting a sell-off after earnings are announced, like most other 'Nets have done. Then I'll be looking to nibble on some additional shares.

Best of luck SCOTT

Ed,

Concerning your speed problems you may want to consider monitoring the comp.dcom.modems.cable usenet newsgroup. There are some pretty smart techies hanging out there and you may find some help. You can also tweak your registry for better performance, I know they have posted that on the newsgroup.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.
