Re the $100 e-mail machine: I got one for my father for his 85th birthday. He had never touched a computer, but now he's getting e-mail from me and all his grandchildren, including one travelling in
China. Yes, this is exactly the kind of dedicated "appliance" that is needed.

This one won't work for electronic banking, because it is e-mail only and TEXT e-mail at that -- no graphics at all except for the interface.

BUT -- it wouldn't take much to engineer a $100 palm-size "appliance" with a wired-in Quicken check register. Banks could give 'em away like toasters.
