Carbon monoxide, a contaminant in the PEM systems is a fuel for the SOFC.
The combination of high efficiency power, high grade heat for boiler/heating applications and the ability to directly use common fuels such as natural gas, make the SOFC the choice of the future for stationary applications.

A suitable SOFC application is as an auxiliary power unit (APU) in a vehicle, truck or within an electric hybrid vehicle for battery recharging and driving mileage extension. All of this can be done on either natural gas, propane or GASOLINE, allowing the hybrids to drive 600 kilometres or more and still refuel at the corner gas station.
