Bell Atlantic, Motorola, Phone.com In
Provisioning Pact

REDWOOD, Calif. -- Bell Atlantic Corp.'s (BEL) Bell Atlantic Mobile
unit, Motorola Inc. (MOT) and Phone.com Inc. (PHCM) will collaborate
to deliver wireless application protocol based over-the-air provisioning
capabilities for CDMA (code division multiple access) handsets.

In a press release Monday, Phone.com said the effort combines Internet
and telephony open standards to create a system capable of delivering
provisioning information as well as electronic customer care to Bell Atlantic
Mobile subscribers through CDMA phones.

Phone.com said Motorola will provide the initial CDMA phones used in
this effort, launching with Phone.com's 3.1 UP.Browser and moving
toward full wireless application protocol compliance in 2000.

Phone.com said as wireless phones and networks offer more features, its
products will allow carriers to automatically update the software and
settings of these phones without subscriber intervention.

The software company said it expects revenue from this activity to affect
the company in fiscal 2001.

Company officials weren't immediately available to elaborate.

Bell Atlantic Mobile owns and operates wireless networks.

Motorola makes advanced electronic systems.
